Homelessness Solutions in Walnut Creek

Hi, I'm Brendan Moran. I'm running for City Council in Walnut Creek in 2024. And I want to talk a little bit about homelessness.

Homelessness is a statewide crisis. There's no community that's immune and that goes for Walnut Creek. There's also not one solution to the problem.

The recent Supreme Court decisions that allow the clearing of homeless encampments could have an effect on our community as people look for places to go. And in my ride alongs with the dedicated police officers with Walnut Creek that are specifically assigned to tackle the homeless issue, I have found that they take a firm yet proactive approach.

In the short term, we need to make sure that people can get the help that they need, whether they are taken to a shelter or a ride back to where they can be safe.

In the long term, I favor a two pronged approach. We focus on housing and look for solutions like micro homes and we continue to expand social services by accepting state and federal money to help pay for things like case workers to help people get the help that they need.
